A very good community fish, but do NOT put 2 males in the same tank as they will fight. Otherwise, relatively peaceful with other non-predatory fish like Platys, Guppies, and Corydoras. They are a lot of fun to watch.
The Celebes Half Beak is a very active schooling fish. Males of this species have very colorful fins and a black lobe on the lower jaw. Females have less color in the fins and have a red or uncolored lobe.
This fish will be very happy in an aquarium that has live plants, plastic plants, rocks, caves, and driftwood. A small school should be kept with other peaceful fish of similar size. The tank should be covered since this fish tends to jump.
They are a very interesting oddball livebearer that is excellent for the planted aquarium. These are best kept with very mild, inoffensive fish like Bumblebee Gobies, Platies, Orange Chromides, and X-Ray Tetras. Due to their disposition for jumping, they should be kept in tanks with floating plants (like Watersprite, Anacharis/Elodea, and Hornwort). Tank decor at the bottom of the tank is largely immaterial. These are social fish and are less nervous when kept in large groups.
Since the Celebes Half Beak is a carnivore it should be fed live foods or frozen foods, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, as well as high quality flake foods.
