The Congo tetra is a species of fish in the African tetra family, found in the central Congo River Basin in Africa. They have flowing fins that appear to shimmer and the main color tends to be silver with an orange glow.
Males are also bigger in body size compared to females. The Congo Tetra male develops an elongated dorsal, pelvic, anal, and caudal fin to attract females. The male develops a blue shimmer and a more noticeably yellow lateral line. The female will maintain short fins, a tannish brown coloration with shades of silver and green.
Behaviour
Congo Tetras do well in a peaceful community aquarium with other fish of the same size or smaller, they are generally peaceful. They prefer to swim in schools of 5-8 in an aquarium that has plenty of room. It is best if this fish is the dominant species in the tank or it may become shy and reclusive.
Tank Conditions
They prefer still, dark, soft, peat-filtered water with low light levels. This can be achieved with dim aquarium lights and floating plants such as Silvinia. They like darker substrates and enjoy nibbling on bottom-growing plants.
Compatibility
Congo tetras are schooling fish that can get anxious if they are not part of a group of at least six of the same species. If kept with other fish of the same size or smaller, Congo tetras are generally peaceful. Ideal tankmates include other tetras, rainbowfish, and Corydoras catfish.
Avoid aggressive species, as they will bully your Congo tetras. Do not keep Congo tetras with any fin-nipping fish as the spectacular fins of the males will be destroyed.
Feeding
The Congo Tetra enjoys many small foods such as brine shrimp or daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, micro pellet food and high quality flake food. They should be fed small amounts several times a day. Do not worry if you don’t actually see them feeding because they can be shy if you are watching them.
Care
Congo tetras are fairly hardy, but you need to keep their habitat well maintained with plenty of space and well filtered water. correctly. If the quality of the water drops, Congo tetras may lose some of their color or get fin damage.

1.We ship country wide (South Africa) via The Courier Guy.
2.Rates start at R150 and are calculated according to weight and destination, therefore transport fees will vary with each parcel.
3.Calculated rates will be done separately for each order, after checkout and therefore will have to be paid separately from the checkout payment on the website.
4.Parcels are generally dispatched the following Monday after receipt of payment and are shipped via The Courier Guy with tracking service available.
5.We don’t want to see our quality fish spending a weekend in a warehouse and therefore will only send on other week days if the customer insist on it. In these cases it is without any guarantee of any form.
6.Shipping fees include packing fees as well as postage charges.
7.We advise you to group all items into one order to avoid paying extra shipping fees.
8.Packages are dispatched at buyers own risk although we will take special precautions to ensure that each item is packed and handled with the necessary care.

2.When we have approved and verified that your refund claim is valid, we will contact you with further details on how you prefer the refund.
3.Please take note that should the refund be for any other reason than a fault from our side i.e., Wrong item dispatched etc. the courier charges for the refund will be for the customer’s own account.
4.Upon receiving your items, please inspect them thoroughly to ensure that no damages were occurred during the shipping process, if any damage, a faulty product or if there’s any problem regarding the livestock it must be reported within 6 hours from receiving the box from the courier service at 0649022006.
5.Please also include photos of said damages.
