Peace of mind Quality
This plant displays needle-shaped leaves and is quite demanding of high lighting levels in the aquarium with plenty of nutrients in the water column. They will require a CO2 system to get the best growth and as the stems can be delicate it is best to plant these in a group.
Rotala Nanjenshan is an ideal mid-ground plant that will add color to the freshwater planted aquarium. Because of the small leaf size, it will grow rather densely, and may need to be thinned out in time.
The Rotala Nanjenshan is a relatively fragile plant that should not be included in an aquarium with overly active fish that may damage the fragile stems. It prefers a water temperature that is toward the upper end of its acceptable range, and it requires a moderate to high level of light of 3 to 5 watts per gallon provided by full spectrum lights (5000-7000°K).
In addition to proper lighting, hobbyists should provide a fertilizer containing iron, potassium and trace elements. CO2 will increase growth rate and bring out the full potential of the plant; however, it is not a requirement to grow Rotala Nanjenshan. Hobbyists who do not use CO2 should utilize a dosing product that contains a source of bio available organic carbon; such as Seachem Flourish Excel or other similar product.
